Creative Response

Creative Response Artists Statement

I chose to do a pop art style poster as creative response to my camera. I didn’t want to do the obvious thing of taking pictures, which I love doing, however I do this in every other facet of my work, so I thought I’’d try something different. It also gave me a chance to test my skills in another medium.
Hopefully the meaning is obvious, but if not, the poster represents a time line of sorts, of world events in relation to the camera and photography. Beginning with the creation of light, which is the most important element in photography, leading down to my camera, which is the result of these many years of evolution.
It is also an homage to NMA, as it is the ultimate mash up.

Keeping it going

So, the blog assignment is over, but I will attempt to keep the momentum going.
It's been a crazy few weeks, uni assignments all over the place, started a new job (5.30 am starts do not agree with me!), and taking pictures left right and centre.
My work for JCU sport has been very time consuming with the soccer and rugby going at the moment, also did one night photographing the girls at 'chicks at the flicks' at Event cinemas, townsville last week.
This week has been just as busy but not quite as stressful, two assignments down, and two to go, with a HD mark for one of them (yay!), and only 3 weeks of uni left for the semester.
This year is flying by!
Also I got super exciting news that I will be the photographer for the upcoming Palm Creek Folk Festival which is just 3 weeks away and is sure to be a lovely weekend of music, art and friendly people.
Well that's it for now, on with the asignments...

Frustration

On a crappier note, have just spent 2 hours creating a slideshow only for it to not upload on here, no matter what I try, am officially giving up on that idea. You can just follow the link to my flickr feed

Passed my first subject!

Woo hoo, passed my first subject of my first semester of uni, 81 for the final exam with a credit as my total. Super happy I don't have to do that again, now if only New Media Arts goes so well ...

                                         My Nikon
Although it may not be the best or most expensive model, this camera means so much to me.
Its purchase signified the start of a new life for me- a new career, new town, new friends and new opportunities.
It has travelled with me and captured some amazing memories, and hopefully we will go many more places together.
It records my life, the fun, the sadness, the adventures, and the mundane everyday occurrences, which often appear quite beautiful through its lens.
It will hopefully be my source of income and livelihood in the future.
It brings me closer to people, whether I know them well, or not at all.
This camera is special to me for all those reasons, but be it this Nikon, or my first Coolpix I bought in 2002 before I went travelling, or the old 35mm I was given as an 8 year old, taking photos has always been a big part of my life, and essential to my memories, but it wasn’t until the purchase of this camera did I have the confidence or the self awareness to try and take what was clearly a life long passion and turn it into a career, and ultimately a fulfilled and happy life.
